I squeal whenever a new K. Webster book comes out, and when I read the synopsis for El Malo I was freaking out!
I love the dark heroes K. Webster writes, and they don't have any scruples. Granted alot of the things they do would scare the shit out of me in real life, but its always a treat to read them. I have to say Javier Estrada was no different.
Rosa Delgado is a woman with an agenda. For years she has worked herself methodically into the life of the man known as El Malo. She has insinuated herself into his house, biding her time to take him down. It hasn't been easy for Rosa. Years ago she lost someone very important to her, and her life has been a culmination of events leading up to the day she rights the wrong that was committed so long ago. As a result of always having her guard up, Rosa is hanging by a thread. And with her nerves shot, she commits a fatal mistake: she catches the attention of a man who won't take no for an answer.
Rosa and Javier were an explosion of fireworks together, each feeding the others kink. Although you rooted for the couple, you couldn't help but wonder when it was all going to shit.
Rosa was very naive at times, sometimes to her detriment. She was confused as to her feelings for the man she was supposed to hate. She took rash decisions, and often got sidetracked, and although she likened herself to a wolf, she was a lamb up for slaughter.
Javier hadn't gotten to where he was by hiding behind the people who worked for him. He was a cruel person at times, but never to Rosa. He committed many crimes, and there were some scenes in the book that turned my stomach. There is a trigger warning which you should heed.
Was I fully entertained for the duration of the book? You bet I was.
