BLURB:
It's just business, nothing personal. Until you have to work with your ex. Nothing Personal, an all-new standalone romantic comedy by New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is live! Nova Lane is having the worst week possible. Her latest relationship ended while on her much-needed vacation, then upon her first day back at work, she learns that her beloved boss has quit – and despite having worked so hard for it, she's not being considered for his position. Who is being considered for the position is none other than Kessler Rocha. Her ex-coworker and ex-lover, Kessler’s the man who broke her heart five years earlier and the reason she moved thousands of miles away, switched jobs, and created numerous voodoo dolls in Kessler’s (very burly, very handsome) liking. Yup. Worst week ever. New in town and on her turf, Kessler promises he’s not the same man he was – and considering he’s now a single father to a precocious toddler, he’s telling the truth. But he’s still an arrogant, devilish and dangerously intelligent man who’s taking over the position Nova feels she deserves. The fact that he’s gotten even more sexy over the years doesn’t help either. Now Nova and Kessler have the choice to let bygones be bygones, or fight with each other every chance they get, with unresolved sexual tension only adding fuel to the flames, creating a fire that might just burn down the whole office. In the corporate world they say it’s just business, nothing personal. Nova and Kessler are about to show just how personal things can get. Download your copy today! Review:
Nothing Personal was a very sweet and emotional read from Karina Halle, that tugged at my heartstrings. Karina Halle can write some strong, level-headed heroines, and Nova Lane (LOVE her name) is just that. She's a strong, independent woman, who takes no shit from anybody. However, that doesn't mean that strong, independent women can't get their heart broken. Nova's been there, done that and she doesn't need a repeat thankyouverymuch.
But what do you do when life puts old heartaches in your path? In Nova's case its in the form of a burly, coworker who she had an affair with years ago. Kessler Rocha is the one that got away. Nova loved him, but he never knew the extent of her affections.
Unexpected circumstances have them meeting once again in the worst way possible. Nova wants nothing to do with Kessler, not after the way he broke her heart. She doesn't have a choice, however.
Nova does what is expected of her. She puts her big-girl panties on and decides to deal with Kessler by ignoring their past and just focusing on their working relationship. However, Kessler is a little shit stirrer. He actually expects everything to be normal so they can go back to being friends. Fucking friends.
For some portions of the book I wanted to reach my hand through the pages and give Kessler a couple of slaps. Some of the ways he handled things that happened had me wanting to bash my head on the wall. Nova was way too good for him, especially after some of the stuff he pulled. This seems to be the case for most of the female leads nowadays, where I find the female protagonist levels above the males. However, Kesslers idiocy was believable. And when he FINALLY understood his mistakes, he did try to fix them the best he could. At the end of the day that's all you can hope for.
A truly enjoyable read from Karina Halle. It's a testament to her writing how she managed to turn a story that has been told a thousand times into something different, getting me to invest in my characters within a short period. I loved Nova and Kesslers little world in Hawaii.
4 stars!
