Blurb:
Motion, the first in the all-new Laws of Physics Trilogy from Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid, is available now! One week. Home alone. Girl genius. Unrepentant slacker. What’s the worst that could happen? Mona is a smart girl and had everything figured out a long time ago. She had to. She didn’t have a choice. When your parents are uber-celebrities and you graduate from high school at thirteen, finish college at seventeen, and start your PhD program at eighteen, you don’t have time for distractions outside of your foci. Even fun is scheduled. Which is why Abram, her brother’s best friend, is such an irritant. Abram is a talented guy, a supremely gifted musician, and has absolutely nothing figured out, nor does he seem to care. He does what he feels, when he feels, and—in Mona’s opinion—he makes her feel entirely too much. Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger. Download your copy today! Review:
This is an odd book, as Penny Reid warns. Her heroine is an odd one, the premise ia an odd one, but if you take a chance, it is worth the while.
Mona is what we call book smart. She's a genius, who has her scientific facts down pat. Growing up in a dysfunctional family has taught her the value of self preservation. Her parents weren't always around, and Mona has spent her whole life doing her own thing. People confuse her. There's no rhyme or rhythm to them, and Mona doesn't deal well with elements she cant control.
Complete contrast to her is her twin sister, who is as unpredictable as they come. Unforseen circumstances has Mona masquerading as her sister for a few days.
Enter Abram, the man who has to babysit her. Abram is cynical, sharp, and disorganized. Although he is not smart in the way Mona is, he is very observant. Abram, if you remember, is Marie's (Dating-ish) younger brother. I have been curious about him since I read the Element of Chemistry series a while back.
The two in close proximity learn more about each other. Perhaps there's more than meets the eye to the nerdy girl, and brooding musician. The relationship that blooms between the two is built on lies, which as we all know never bodes well for anyone. Mona is reasonably hesitant to let anything happen, because Abram is not the kind of person to let lies go. Abram can't help himself being fascinated with the girl that he thought he hates. Maybe she's not as bad as she'd seemed before.
Penny Reid continues to write the kinds of smart romance that we crave. It was amazingly nerdy. Her characters are quirky, and are all different from one another. I was anticipating the cliffhanger, but thank god it wasn't as bad as as it could have been. I can't wait for the second book.
