Review:
Dark romances are usually a hit or a miss for me. I usually get completely invested in the story or am bored to tears. For Pam Godwin's books, I am immediately enthralled. I fell in love with her books after reading Vanished and discovering the crazy world of Van Quiso and haven't looked back since.
The characters that are part of this series have been through alot. Kate, like many of them, are direct victims of sex-trafficking. I will admit Kate didn't intrigue me in the previous books, but after reading this I have newfound respect for the girl. Tiago Badell is a hard, hard man to live with, and I don't envy her for it. He is hell bent on revenge, and what starts off as a cat and mouse game becomes so much more.
Tiago is a bad man, and Pam doesn't shy from exploring the dark parts of his psyche. Yes it is romanticized, but the edge is still there. Tiago disgusted me at times, but I couldn't stop reading for the story and for Kate, who I couldn't help but root for. Tiago is bad till the end, and when the book ended I couldn't help but think that Kate had found the perfect man for herself: one who would hurt her and protect her with every fiber of his being.
This book was gripping, hot, and disturbing all packaged into one. I really enjoyed it, and its been a long while since I've truly enjoyed a dark romance. One tiny problem I had with the story was the change in Tiago's attitude towards Kate. It seemed kind of rushed, but other than that one small complaint, everything else was perfect.
5 stars.
